Where is Golden Hour located?
Golden Hour is a fine jewellery studio based in Calgary, Alberta. All appointments, whether for custom design, repairs, appraisals, or private acquisition, take place in our studio. Virtual appointments are also available for clients across Canada.
Do you have a showroom?
Golden Hour is a private, appointment based studio rather than a traditional showroom or walk in jewellery store. We have a selection of samples to explore, but we do not keep a full collection on display. If there is something specific you would like to see, let us know before your Golden Hour Session and we can discuss what may be available to bring in for you.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, and that is intentional. Every Golden Hour Session is private and unhurried. You will have our complete focus, not a floor full of distractions. Appointments can be booked in our Calgary studio or virtually, whichever works best for you.
Can I do my Golden Hour Session virtually or over the phone?
Absolutely. We work with clients virtually and over the phone all the time, and are happy to do either. Whether you are in Calgary or elsewhere in Canada, a remote session gives you the same personal experience. We will walk you through the entire process, including stone options, design directions, and next steps, with the same care and attention we bring to every in-studio appointment.
I am not sure what I want yet. Is it too early to book?
It is never too early. A Golden Hour Session is not a sales conversation, it is a starting point. Many of our clients come in simply to explore, and leave with a much clearer sense of what they are looking for. There is no pressure and no expectation.
What makes Golden Hour different from other jewellers in Calgary?
We start with your story, not a display case. In a private Golden Hour Session, Amy and Andy bring nearly three decades of combined experience to the conversation, helping you understand your options and discover what feels right for you.
We can source a stone or finished piece with your preferences in mind, or create something entirely your own. If you choose custom design, you’ll see and refine the design before it is made. It’s a thoughtful, personal process with people who care about the piece long after you take it home.
Do you have jewellery available to purchase without creating a custom piece?
Yes. Alongside custom design, we source a curated selection of fine jewellery through our suppliers. We can arrange for you to view pieces before making a purchase.
Do you sell loose diamonds or only set stones?
Both. If you are looking for a specific stone for a custom setting, an upgrade, or simply as an investment, we source it specifically for you through our vendor network and present it with 3rd party certification when available. Nothing is pulled from a display case. Every stone is chosen with your piece in mind.
Do you offer natural and lab grown diamonds?
Yes. We work with both natural and lab grown diamonds and will help you compare options based on your preferences, priorities, and budget.
Can I choose a coloured gemstone instead of a diamond?
Absolutely. We work with a wide range of coloured gemstones including sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and more, sourced through our network of exceptional vendors. If you have something specific in mind, tell us. If you are open to exploring, we will show you what is possible.
Where are your products manufactured?
Our products are manufactured both locally and globally. We carefully select our manufacturing partners to ensure our products are high quality and a fair value.
How does the custom design process work?
It starts with a Golden Hour Session, a private appointment in our Calgary studio or virtually, with our full attention on you. We will ask questions, walk you through stone options and reference pieces, and get a clear sense of what you are after.
From there, we develop a design proposal that reflects your taste, your occasion, and the best available materials. You will see the concept and pricing before anything is confirmed.
Once you are happy with the direction, your piece is crafted through our trusted network of master goldsmiths. We oversee every detail and keep you in the loop throughout.
You do not need to arrive with a clear vision. Many of our best pieces began with a client who simply knew how they wanted it to feel.
How long does custom design usually take?
Most custom projects take approximately three to six weeks. Intricate designs or materials that are harder to source may take longer. If you have a particular date in mind, please let us know. We can sometimes accommodate rush requests.
Is a deposit required for a custom order?
Yes. A 50% deposit is required to proceed with a custom order. We’ll confirm the details and timeline with you before work begins.
What if I don’t love the first design?
That’s why we show you a CAD design before your piece is crafted. You’ll have the opportunity to review it, request changes, and, if you wish, see a wax model. We’ll refine the design with you until you feel confident approving it for production.
Can I use my existing diamonds or gold in a new piece?
Yes, and this is one of our favourite things to do. Your existing materials become the foundation of something entirely new. We will assess what you are bringing in with accuracy and care, show you what it could become, and only move forward when the direction feels genuinely right to you.
Do I have to use all of my old materials, or can I just use some?
Entirely your choice. Some clients want to incorporate every element of a piece they love. Others want to keep one meaningful stone and build something new around it. We follow your lead and make sure the result feels like yours.
I have inherited jewellery I do not wear. What are my options?
You have more options than you might think. Pieces can be reimagined into something you would actually wear, whether that is a different setting, a new design, or a completely transformed piece. Alternatively, if you would prefer to part with them, we also offer private acquisition and will make you a fair offer. Bring them in. We will show you the full picture.
Do you repair jewellery you did not make?
Yes. We welcome all fine jewellery for professional cleaning, inspection, and repair, not just pieces made at Golden Hour. Whether it is a prong that needs re-tipping, a ring that needs resizing, or a more involved restoration, we will assess it carefully and carry out the work with the precision it deserves.
Do I need to book an appointment for a cleaning or repair?
Yes. All services at Golden Hour are by appointment. This ensures your pieces receive our full attention rather than being left in a queue. Bookings are easy and we will work around your schedule.
How often should I have my jewellery cleaned and inspected?
Once or twice a year is a good rule of thumb for pieces you wear regularly. A professional cleaning restores brilliance, and an inspection catches small issues like a loose setting or a worn prong before they become bigger ones. It is a small thing that makes a meaningful difference to the life of a piece.
Can I get my jewellery appraised for insurance purposes?
Yes. We provide professional diamond and jewellery appraisals for insurance and estate purposes, conducted by a GIA-trained diamond grader. Our appraisals are thorough and carefully documented, giving you a well-informed professional opinion on the value of your piece.
Do you buy jewellery, diamonds, or gold?
Yes. We purchase gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, fine jewellery, estate and antique pieces, coins, and bullion. If you have pieces you no longer wear, inherited jewellery you are unsure about, or precious metals sitting unused, we would love to take a look.
Do I need an appointment to sell jewellery?
Yes. A private appointment ensures we can give your pieces the time and attention they deserve, and that you have a quiet, unhurried space to ask questions and consider your options. Book a Golden Hour Session to get started.
How does the selling process work?
Before booking, we encourage you to send us a brief description of what you have. It helps us prepare and ensures your appointment is as useful as possible. Once you come in, we will evaluate everything carefully, explain our thinking transparently, and present you with an offer based on fair market value. There is no obligation to accept and no pressure at any point. The entire process happens in the studio, privately and at your pace.
How do you determine what you will pay for a piece?
We assess based on current market value, taking into account the metal content, the quality and characteristics of any stones, and the condition and provenance of the piece. We explain our reasoning clearly so you understand exactly how we arrived at our offer.
Do pieces need to be brought in, or can they be mailed?
All repairs, cleanings, and appraisals are handled in our Calgary studio. We ask that pieces be brought in personally. It allows us to assess everything properly and ensures your jewellery is in our hands, not in transit.
How long will my order take?
Many of our pieces are made to order, so timelines vary by design. We’ll provide an estimated completion and delivery date when you place your order, and keep you updated as your piece progresses. Once it ships, you’ll receive an email with tracking information.
How much does shipping cost?
We currently ship within Canada only. Shipping is complimentary on orders of $500 or more. For orders under $500, shipping is $30.
What is the return policy?
Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.
Are any purchases final sale?
No. We want you to feel happy and confident with your purchase. In stock jewellery may be returned or exchanged within 14 days of delivery or pickup, provided it is unworn and returned with its original packaging and documentation.
Custom, personalized, and special order jewellery may also be returned or exchanged, subject to a restocking fee. If something isn’t right, please contact us so we can help.
STILL HAVE A QUESTION?
We’re always happy to help. Get in touch or book an appointment to talk through what you have in mind.
